Hi, my name is Tammy Nason-Tierney. I have one of the greatest jobs in the world- teaching Kindergarten! I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Skillin School Community, and a member of the Kindergarten team! I truly believe that Kindergarten is a very magical place- sometimes noisy, often messy and always busy, but most definitely a milestone year for families sending their babies to school for the first time. It has always been my goal for the children in my class to LOVE school. As I teach the children our curriculum, I always try to make learning fun, meaningful and appropriate for a young child!
After completing my BA in Elementary Education, I worked as a tutor in 6 th grade at Memorial Middle School. The following year I was trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and also team- taught a multi-age 1-2 at Marsh School. Then, I came to Skillin to teach all-day Kindergarten. I have taught grades K, 1, 2, and 4, as well as Reading Recovery. In 2000, I received my Masters degree in Early Literacy and my literacy specialist certification. I have enjoyed all of my teaching experiences. I am often in awe of the achievements I get to witness everyday as children learn, play and develop, especially Kindergarten students!
In my other life, I am married to a wonderful man, James. We live in South Portland with our three beautiful and very busy children. Jack is 6 and in first grade, Frankie is 3 and Greta 2. We live in an old house that we are slowly renovating. When we’re not working on the house, we enjoy playing outside, going for hikes or bike rides, making homemade pizza and visiting all the grandparents! Besides my family, I love the beach, summer, reading, pedicures, live music, spending time with friends, a great sale, coffee, chocolate chip cookies, and a really good laugh.
And remember, everything you ever really needed to know- you learned in Kindergarten! |
Hello and welcome to our school site! My name is Laura Rich. This will be my first year at Skillin School. I have taught Kindergarten for several years; first in Bradley and then in Westbrook, Maine. For many years my primary responsibilities were to my family. My husband and I have two sons. Alexander is a junior at Drew University, studying economics and very happy to be playing collegiate baseball. Our older son Zachary is a senior at MIT. He has taken his love of art, music, and computers to a level that still boggles me! Being able to stay home with them was an opportunity that I will always be thankful for. With both our children off to college I am ready to step into the classroom full time again! I am looking forward to working with children and their families at Skillin School!
In my free time I enjoy gardening, cooking, reading, making miniatures and spending time with my family!
